Wednesday: Ladies Bible Study at Jill Coombs, 1:30 P.M. Wednesday: Group Nights for Students (grades 6-12), 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Bethel Church, an opportunity to experience in-depth growth for young leaders. Wednesday: Bible Study and Prayer, 7 P.M. followed by choir practice at 8 P.M. at Harold and Arbutus’s home (1250 Aznoe Road). Saturday: En Gadi A contemporary worship service for the entire family. Everyone welcome! COMING UP: Annual Congregational Meeting, 7 P.M. in Memorial Hall. Be sure all leaders have their reports in to be included in the annual report. The agenda includes: election of officers, 2012 Budget, and disposition of Walter Lucky Memorial Gift. Members please be present. CHURCH NEWS: Thank you to Bethel Builders for their generous donation to Bethel Church to be applied to the fuel bill. * Thanks to Leila Nehlsen for cleaning church in December and to Mari Gibson and Marsha Gunnlaugsson for cleaning in November. * District Youth Conference is this weekend, January 6-8 in Green Bay at the KI Convention Center. The Prime Time Rallies will include cutting edge worship, student-led prayer, awesome lights and riveting truth from God’s Word. The theme this year is “Heartbeat” and it will challenge youth to live their lives committed to Jesus. Pray for our youth attending from the Island and others gathering together for this event and chaperones, Lorel Gordon, Ben and Stephanie Baumann. * The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service was well attended. Many Christmas carols were sung, interspersed with scripture readings of the Christmas story. Readers were Sarah and Anita Gibson, Christian Cornell, and Tim Green. Pastor read a moving poem about taking time and not rushing through life. Nikki Nehlsen, pianist. Ben Baumann, guitarist. COMMUNITY NEWS: Elaine (Knudsen) Reichenbach, 95, passed away Dec. 22 at the Dorchester in Sturgeon Bay. A funeral service was held at Bethel Church Dec. 29. Pastor Phil Green officiated. Pianist: Arbutus Greenfeldt. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Kevin Krueger, Kurt Kruerger, Kraig Krueger, Knute Krueger, Keenan Krueger, and great grandson, Zachary Young. Honorary Pallbearers: Tyler McGrane, and nephews, Edward Knudsen, and Daniel Knudsen. Solo: How Great Thou Art by Pastor Phil. Congregational hymns: The Old Rugged Cross, When We All Get To Heaven. A bountiful lunch was served following the committal at the cemetery. * Lloyd Tetting, 64, passed away at the home of his son in Madison, WI while receiving treatments at the hospital in Madison. He had been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis since October. Lloyd and his wife, Sally, purchased Lampert’s Lumber Yard in 2005 and have operated it since then. Sally will continue to operate the business and reside at their home on the Island. A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held at Stavekirke sometime next summer. Date to be announced. * John and Audrey Nourse, newer Island residents, recently purchased a log cabin on Townline Rd. and have moved from their West Harbor home which they are now renting. * Daniel, Laila, and baby Walter Yildirin are spending the winter on the Island living in the cottage on Little Lake Rd. owned by Scott Reed. They were here during the summer and decided to stay for the winter. Laila is sister to Hannah Johnson who is also spending the winter here. They are granddaughters of Steve and Marge Tobey. * Marilyn Gau had just returned from Scand where she was receiving therapy after a fall. She then suffered from pneumonia and was a patient at Door Co. Memorial Hospital for about 2 weeks. She is now recuperating at home. * Tom Noonan continues to recuperate at home from his triple by-pass surgery. * Shirley Baxter is living with her daughter, Edna Clifton, at 1210 W. Old US Hwy 50, Washington, Indiana, 47501 for the winter months. * Merrill and Donna Lundberg have bought a second home in St. Charles, IL. * The annual Washington Island Polar Bear Plunge took place on January 1 at Schoolhouse Beach. Papa Bear (Jens Hansen) leads the group into the lake. This year there were 22 participants. There was a little snow on the stones but no ice in the harbor. Northwest winds provided some waves. There were about 100 shivering observers. * Rex Jorgenson and Julie (Gunnlaugsson) Hahn would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Jorgenson, to Jason Schoneman. No wedding date has been set. * Extensive repair and remodeling are taking place at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Young Brothers are doing the construction. The morning worship service is being held in their Fellowship Hall until the sanctuary work is completed. * Olivia Andersen, daughter of Peter and Mary Lynn Andersen, graduated from Fox Valley Tech in December majoring in Medical Administration. She is currently seeking employment in that field. * Ben Young qualified for trial treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida. He was able to begin the new treatment just after Christmas. Please continue to pray for him. He has served on this committee since it was first organized. I (Lorel) am guessing it has been well over 50 years. *
